Living at the intersection of Loft Jazz, New Chamber, Improv and Electronic Music – deeply rooted in the traditions of Afro Cuban Yoruba music. Sonic Liberation Front brings together sounds and time periods in a manner like no other band around today. The ensemble has consistently won international critical acclaim and have been named #1 or Top 10 by the Village Voice, All About Jazz, Jazziz, and more. Some accolades: The WIRE, Ben Watson: “Ludicrously Superb” / John Tchicai: “How dare you give me goosebumps so early in the moring” / Flea: “wanted to tell you that i dig your record.” The band has recorded six internationally-distributed albums, including collaborations with Andy Gonzalez, Sunny Murray, and Oliver Lake. Live performance collaborators include: Marshall Allen, Odean Pope, Badal Roy, Thurman Barker, Michelle Rosewoman, Termite TV Collective, Kulu Mele African Dance Ensemble, Moor Mother, Prometheus Chamber Orchestra, Dr. Kariamu Welsh, and Shaness Kemp. Sonic Liberation Front has performed extensively in the Philadelphia and New York area, and at festivals and cultural institutions throughout the Midwest U.S. and Canada.
